Learn energetic dance steps and combinations, sensuous arm and hand movements, and hear beautiful music from the Turkey, the Mideast, and other countries.

Class Instructor, Kathryn Ferguson, studied dance in Cairo, Egypt, and Morocco.

For 12 years, she taught and performed throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia and Australia, including Istanbul, Singapore, New Zealand, Berlin, and Amsterdam.

She is a pioneer of Arizona’s Mideastern Dance scene, and has taught many local dancers who have gone on to become professional dancers and teachers in Tucson and Phoenix.

She performed nightly in Mideastern dinner clubs for nine years and continues to perform with world-renowned musicians in stage concerts.

She directs the Xanadu Dance Troupe, a company of dynamic dancers who perform dazzling modern and traditional mideastern choreographies.

The very thought can turn even a seasoned dancer into a quivering mass — and not in a good way. But it doesn’t have to be like that. Join Shimmy Sister Kate in exploring tips and techniques that can make improvisation easy and fun!

Though basic dance knowledge is required, this workshop is open to all levels of dancers in all styles of bellydance. Come prepared to experiment and play in a supportive environment.

About Shimmy Sister Kate:

Kate has been studying the art of Raqs Sharqi since 1985, and spent over a decade learning from her mentor, Kathryn Ferguson. After spending several years teaching beginning through advanced dancers at Xanadu Studio in Tucson, AZ, she now teaches classes in weekly and workshop format in the Seattle area. She is sought after as an instructor because of her musical expertise, theatrical presentation, and patient, thorough breakdown of class material.
